AFP announced that the US Government would be announcing a “major scientific breakthrough” after reports scientists have achieved a major milestone in nuclear fusion research.
The US Department of Energy said it would announce a “major scientific breakthrough” this week, after media reported a federal lab had recently achieved a major milestone.
AFP later went on to say that scientists in the California-based Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory had achieved a “net energy gain” from an experimental fusion reactor.
It represented the first time scientists have successfully produced more energy in a fusion reaction.
This is the same type that powers the sun.
Potentially a major step in the pursuit of zero-carbon power.
